WEARABLE WEDNESDAY: APPLIQUE PARTY!

Posted by Lori~
I love creating wearable art!  I love taking an old shirt for Mur-Man and adding design! I love taking a shirt with a stain and covering it up with adorableness!  I love Mini Boden clothes, but I can’t afford them.  But I can make a shirt that looks Mini Boden for a lot less!
I recently asked friends, followers, and WOMS over for an appliqué party.  All I asked is that they provide the shirts (onesies, pants, t-shirts, and so much more), wonder-under (AKA fusible interfacing), and scraps of fabric if they have any (but I had a large assortment).

The kids attended too:  E, A, and Mur-Man

Creating appliqué art is simple.  First up create a pattern. I of course scoured the internet looking for inspiration.  Draw out your pattern on scrap paper until it is perfect (the simpler the pattern the easier).
Holly created this star pattern--perfect for a pair of Mur-Man's pants

You will then trace the pattern onto your fusible interfacing and cut out.

Iron the wonder-under onto the back side of the fabric (rough side of interfacing to wrong side of fabric).  Cut out the material around your pattern.

Peel off the wonder-under layer (leaving a film over your fabric).

Iron the appliqué to your clothing item.  Once secure, sew around the edge using a ¼ inch seam or a zig zag.

We made lots of fun items during the “party”.  Here is a sample of our wearable art!

E' jeans with a new heart patch!  ADORABLE!

WOMS—YOU CAN DO THIS TOO!  It’s simple, it’s easy, and it’s THRIFTY!  Consider going to thift stores to purchase used clothing items--they work perfect for applique art!
