$4.99 BREAD MAKER!

We sent Thrifty Nana (Ethne's mom) on a mission--FIND A BREAD MACHINE FOR $5.00 OR LESS!

Within 30 minutes mission success!

K-Dog, Thrifty Nana, and Lori with "The Admiral"

That's right--at a local goodwill Thrifty Nana found a bread machine for $4.99 in mint condition.  Just think...a loaf of quality bread costs around $2.50 minimum.  With "The Admiral" the bread making will be endless!  I plan to commit to making my bread--not buying my bread!  Let the frugality begin!

The Bread Maker hard at work!

We tried it...we liked it... (high school cheer) and the machine works like a pro!

It's golden perfection!

Here's the recipe used to test the machine.  This recipe was found in the Betty Crocker Bread Machine Cookbook (also purchased at goodwill).  According to Thrifty Nana, this recipe is foolproof!

The Finished Product!

Buttermilk Bread:

1 1/4 cups buttermilk or kefir (more on kefir on an upcoming post)
3T butter
3T honey
3 1/4 cups bread flour (1 cup whole wheat flour can be substituted for 1 cup of bread flour)
1 1/2 t salt
1/4 t baking soda
1 1/2 t bread machine yeast (regular is fine)

Another frugal tip:  Buy your flour in bulk.  You will save even more.  Thrifty Nana purchases 50 pound bags of bread flour at Cosco for $13.50.  Or you can buy a 10 pound bag of flour for around $5.00 at a grocery store.  Be wise--ECONOMISE!

Last but not least...a shout-out to the husbands!  Here is a photo of Steve and Shaun using their web designing "technical" skills to set-up our blog!
